European countries need to maintain contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, called for this, his words are transmitted by RTVI.
"I think we need to talk to Putin, we need to maintain communication. Ever since I was Prime Minister of Belgium, I have had regular contacts with Putin," Michel said. He said that after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, he still had contacts with Putin.
According to Michel, it is necessary to continue the dialogue with the head of the Russian state in order to try to manage the humanitarian situation, as well as to defend his position.
Earlier, Michel said that it is necessary to develop a mechanism for suspending Russia's membership in the UN Security Council, since it violates international law. However, he admitted that the suspension of Russia's membership is not yet possible.
